Can you tell us about the role you have as part of the Global Fixed Income team?  What do you enjoy most about your role?

I am a portfolio manager on our Fixed Income team. I love what I do. In simple terms, my main objective every day is to look after our clients’ portfolios and to make sure we deliver strong performance against set out objectives.

Can you describe your career journey?  When did you know you wanted to be in the investment management/financial services industry?

I knew I wanted to be in finance shortly after I set foot on the American soil. Growing up in the Soviet command economy, the outlets for transmitting capital, such as stock markets or other securities exchanges, simply did not exist. I arrived in the US in the ‘90s, just about at the height of the Day Trading era, when everyone seemed to offer advice on what to buy and what to sell. I was fascinated!  I didn’t know how or when, but I knew then that I wanted to pursue this field.

What energizes you outside of work?

I am a very “outdoorsy” person. I enjoy sports and competition in general. Tennis and skiing are top of my list of favorite activities.  Psychology behind high performing athletic teams particularly captivates me. I think we learn so much about ourselves and our teammates in moments of intense pressure like those faced by athletes at key moments, where all of their hard work and training comes down to delivering outstanding performance at a single point in time.
