Young Lee, CFA is a Senior Managing Director and General Counsel at MacKay Shields. Prior joining MacKay Shields in 2010 he was General Counsel at Principled Capital Management. Previously, Young was Chief Legal Officer at Oppenheimer Capital and Vice President and Counsel at AllianceBernstein. Earlier in his career he worked as a corporate attorney at Paul Hastings where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, as well as capital markets transactions.
Young is Director of MacKay Shields Europe Investment Management Limited, Director of Plainview Funds plc, and Chair of the firm’s Socially Responsible Investing advisory committee.
Young currently serves on the CFA Institute’s Standards of Practice Council, which is charged with providing continuous oversight of CFA Institute standards and fostering the integrity of the capital markets by developing and maintaining the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Young has coauthored two papers on ESG that are part of the CFA level I and II curriculum: Corporate Governance and Other ESG Considerations: An Introduction (2016) and Corporate Governance and Other ESG Considerations in Investment Analysis (2019). He also contributed to a white paper on Bondholder Engagement published by the Principles for Responsible Investment.
Young is a graduate of Cornell University, where he was a double major in Government and Sociology, cum laude, and is a graduate of New York University School of Law. Young has been practicing law since 1997 and his career in the investment management industry began in 2001.
