Joel Albarella is Senior Vice President, the founder and Head of New York Life Ventures (NYLV), the corporate venture capital business of New York Life Insurance Company.

Joel is responsible for steering all activities of New York Life Ventures, including the sourcing and portfolio management of strategic venture capital investments, the integration of startup technology and the cultivation of strategic partnerships to increase New York Life’s competitive advantage. New York Life Ventures has produced top quartile investment returns since inception and continually adds innovative capabilities across the company’s business operations to better serve NYL’s policyholders. In addition, NYLV houses Innovation Services, a team dedicated to creating the conditions for testing across New York Life using Human-Centered Design principles and techniques.

Prior to founding New York Life Ventures, Joel was Director and Chief of Staff in Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions for NYL’s Chief Investment Officer and Chief Executive Officer. Before joining New York Life, Joel held various financial technology roles at Deutsche Asset Management and Hewitt Associates.

Joel earned a B.A from Rutgers University and an M.B.A from Columbia University.
